Voices from the Silenced, a play based on the experiences of women who had abortions prior to Roe. Celenia Delsol, a member of the cast and former resident of Manhattan Valley, will join us. After the documentary, we will discuss the atmosphere surrounding abortion post-Dobbs, and the work we have to do to protect women's control over their own bodies. Throughout history, communities have struggled to address mental illness in the population. Society has tried many things – mostly without success. This forum will review approaches to mental health care, from before deinstitutionalization to today. Robyn Barnard, Senior Director Refugee Advocacy at Human Rights First and ManoLasya Perepa Policy & Practice Counsel American Immigration Lawyers Association in conversation with David Isaacson Broadway Dems Steering Committee and immigration lawyer Ms Barnard oversees Human Rights First’s congressional and administrative advocacy to protect the rights of refugees and ensure the United States commits to refugee protection, including access to asylum protections and resettlement, at home and abroad. She’ll share her thoughts on the state of the asylum system today. ManoLasya Perepa's work is focused on immigration court reform. Prior to joining AILA, Ms. Perepa was at the National Immigrant Justice Center where she represented sexual assault survivors, people with diminished legal capacity, children, and other asylum seekers in removal proceedings. Additionally, she worked on the Immigration Court Helpdesk program which assists pro se respondents. Ms. Perepa also has experience filing U-Visas, VAWAs, and I-751 Waivers for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. These officials visited some of the most impacted towns and engaged in critical conversations with local government and community leaders about the deepening crisis, including the desperate need for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. A Civics Lesson On How To Solve A Problem Club Business begins at 7:30pm Forum begins at 8:00pm We can all get confused sometimes when trying to figure out which level of government handles which kind of issues. And then to make matters even more complicated, how do we find out within the level of government, who is the correct authority to ask? This forum will answer these questions and give the audience the tools and know-how to decipher the maze of bureaucracy. We are not solving the issues at hand today (that will be another forum/town hall in the future!), but we are learning about the process and how to find the correct contact! We are the official Democratic Club in the 69th Assembly District, Part C, which covers most of the area between West 106th and West 125th Streets, Central Park West/Frederick Douglass Blvd to Riverside Drive. This includes Morningside Heights, parts of Manhattan Valley and the UWS, southwest Harlem, and Manhattanville. We believe in government that cares for people.

Our meetings happen on the 2nd Thursday of the month (except for January when it's on the 3rd Thursday).
We will continue meeting on Zoom until we decide it's safe to gather in person.
