2021 Resolutions
Date: November 11, 2021 Resolution of the Broadway Democratic Club
Support for parole reform bills: 'Elder Parole' and 'Fair & Timely Parole'
We, the Broadway Democratic Club, support the parole reform bills ‘Elder Parole’ (S15-Hoylman/A8855-Davilla) and ‘Fair & Timely Parole’ (S7514-Salazar/A4231-Weprin), introduced in the Legislature in January 2021. People should not die in prison or be released at the end of their lives as a consequence of extremely long sentences. Revenge for the original crime committed decades ago should not be our guiding principle. Instead, we must look at what people have done and accomplished during their time in prison. We, the Broadway Democratic Club, will support both bills as they are reconsidered by the Legislature in 2022.
Passed unanimously.

Failure of leadership in the New York State Democratic Party
To Governor Hochul: due to multiple significant failures of leadership, including but not limited to his active refusal to support the duly-nominated Democratic candidate for mayor of Buffalo, as well as his complete abdication of responsibility to educate voters about and work to pass all five Democratic-sponsored ballot propositions, three of which failed to pass in the most recent election, we, the Broadway Democratic Club, do hereby call on you to ask for Jay Jacobs’ resignation from his position as the Chairman of the New York State Democratic Party.
Passed unanimously.
Date: September 9, 2021 Resolution of the Broadway Democratic Club
Enact ‘Less is More’ legislation
We, the Broadway Democratic Club, support the parole revocation reform bill ‘Less is More’ (S1144A-Benjamin/A5576A-Forrest), passed by the Legislature on June 10 2021, and urge the Governor to sign it into law as soon as possible and before the December 31 deadline. People serving parole should not be re-incarcerated for minor, non-criminal, so-called technical violations of parole conditions.
Passed unanimously.
