Together, we can protect democracy—but democracy depends on all of us. How do you talk about voting for democracy? Start with the principles that have long defined our constitutional system: freedom of speech, a free press, an independent judiciary, the right to vote, and accountability under the law regardless of wealth, influence, or connections. These principles should never be taken for granted. They require citizens who are informed, engaged, and willing to participate. While the Republican party faces significant headwinds, the Democrats face their own challenges due to division, complacency and exhaustion.
If you're not at the table, you're on the menu! --Emerson Ellenwood, VP, CUDems Don’t take your rights for granted. Learn. Participate. Vote. Vote early and make sure your family, neighbors and friends all vote. That is our power. Without it, it is our weakness. The Broadway Democrats invite you to join us for a hybrid Meeting looking at ways to help with the Midterms on Thursday, September 24th at 7:00pm. (Doors open at 6:45pm.) We will have speakers from Vote Blue talking about their buses, Swing Left, the Statewide Campaigns storefront, and our very own Go Blue 2026! The meeting will be held in person at Cathedral Parkway Towers, 125 West 109th Street (Between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues). A Zoom option will also be available for those joining remotely. Club Business Unfortunately, in August, our beloved VP, Laura Danford Mandel stepped down and the Steering Committee chose a Temporary Vice-President, James Dennin. At this meeting, we will be electing a new vice-president for the remainder of 2026. James is running for vice-president but we’ll also take names from the floor. Check with Luis Roman if you don't know if you're eligible to vote. ************************************************************************** A word from James Dennin... I am very excited to be taking on a bigger role in the club and filling in for the incredible Laura Mandel while our club gears up to elect a new Vice President. For those who do not know me, my name is James Dennin and I grew up in the neighborhood and have been participating in the club for years. I was born at St Luke's, married at the Cathedral and schooled at St Hilda's and Stuyvesant. I serve on our county committee, worked on the races of many of our elected officials and I love getting out into the streets. I have a beautiful six month old daughter Louise who is also very excited to begin participating in the political life of our incredible community. If you have any questions for me or food requests for our holiday party (beyond my signature chili), please be in touch! James Dennin 917.439.1217 www.james-dennin.com @jamesfdennin |
